Salumara Thimmakka



Salumara Thimmakka is a 110 years old environmentalist from the Indian state of Karnatake.She did nothave a child of her own.So she became the mother of 400 cassava trees. This is why the Indians call her "Mother of the tree".

She did not get a school education because she had financial difficulties. When she was a child.So from the age of tem she worked as a miner near her hone. A few years later she got married.

Twenty five years after their marrige,The couple had no children, She suffered a lot because of this and even tried to commit suicide at the age of forty. The couple , who were grieving without children, useda new tactic to alleviate tthe grif.The two got up every morning to plant new trees, fertilize and water the trees.Gradually this became part of their daily routine and became the most important mission of the day.Since she had no children , she cared for the life.Thimmakka even won the "Padma Sri in 2019"for her outstandingthinking.

At present there is a fund in the name of Thimmakka which is used for environmentaal protection projects, education of school childre and facilities for collect raainwater and build a tank for the people of the village where she lives,regardless of her age.

In many places people are tempted to talk about how to prevent large.scale environmental damge.But they do not focus on what they can do individually Salumara Thimmakka did not say a word but showed it in action.
