Assassination of Vijaya Kumarathunga and my idea.


I know it is useless to try to introduce you to a Sri Lanka artist named Kovilage Anton Vijaya Kumarathunga. Because he is the dream actor you and I loved. But february 16, 1988 all those who loved him had to leave unfortunately.Hundred of thousands of  Sri lankans shed tears that day.He is a fair politician and audience love is no less an artist.This was an obstacle  for some political parties.The general opinion is that he has deprived the country of the sinful pleasures of politics which he could not bear.

"It was a shivaratri festival day. Someone invited him over for lunch that day.he 

had come to the vehicle parked near his house to leave for it .There he met a young man who had given him a poster to draw.While Vijaya Kumarathunga was taking to him, two youths on a Honda motorbike were coming towards Vijaya's house from Polgahangoda.The man in the back seat started firing at Vijaya .The bullet struck Vijaya in the back and he fell.Again the killer came to Mr. Vijaya who had fallen and shot him in the head and face  and fled.

Who wanted to kill Vijaya?Who did it ?That was the problem of every human being. In 1995, Vijay's  killer was caught by the law. His confession states that Vijaya was assassinated at the behest of a political party.His name is Lyanal Ranasigha. Layanal had already become the assassin of forty-three powerful politician , monk and other civilians.But the police report states that he escaped. However, the Commission  of Inquiry in to Vijaya's murder has not yet received a definite report on Vijaya's murder. What happend was that many who used Vijaya's death for political gain only blamed.

The death of a great man was unberable to many.Vijaya's driver Amarasinghe committed suicide by pouring petrol in front of the "Kala Bavana"where Vijaya's body was buried due to unbearable pain.His death is agreat tragedy for the whole country and I think if he had lived ,that a positive change is taking place in the art and politics of Sri lanka.However he is still alive in human hearts today.
